Two rowing club members stand on the banks of the Thames during the Henley Royal Regatta on Wednesday. The annual event, which kicked off June 29 and runs through July 3, was first held in 1839. Because the regatta was instituted before official rowing federations had been established, it has its own rules independent of both the English and the International Rowing Federations. It is among the best known regattas in the world.
