Sumo wrestling has a storied history in Japan. Lately, however, the sport has been sullied by a deepening scandal involving match fixing and, as of Sunday, the first cancellation of a tournament since 1946. The Japan Sumo Association announced on Sunday that the Grand Tournament in Osaka would not be held. The move is a reaction to the discovery by police of several text messages sent among wrestlers which clearly indicated their intent to orchestrate upcoming matches. Here, a man stands outside Sunday's emergency meeting in Tokyo where the cancellation decision was made.
