Mars in high resolution: Some of the clearest pictures ever taken of the Red Planet's surface were beamed back to Earth on Monday. This image, which was taken by a camera on board the European Space Agency's Mars Express, shows the Echus Chasma plateau. The region contains canyons, which were created by water flows, that are about 100 kilometers (62 miles) long, 10 kilometers wide and up to 1 kilometer deep.
