A protester dons a gas mask while taking part in anti-government demonstrations in Sana'a, Yemen. There have been recurring protests in the country since January calling for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to resign. On April 23, Saleh, who has been in office since 1978, agreed to a proposal from Arab mediators outlining a gradual shift in power. Although the agreement was to be signed in early May, Saleh's refusal to sign it has led to continued demonstrations. Wednesday, May 11, reportedly saw 12 protesters killed in the capital city, and violence continued throughout the country on Thursday.
