SPIEGEL Surfs the Web Bouncing Baby Bush
Never ones to shy away from overkill here at Spiegel Online International, we thought, given all the attention being given to the clandestine CIA flights in Europe, we might as well share one of the cleverest Bush-critical Web sites out there. Called Baby Bush Toys, the site offers toys for your not-so-intelligent baby. "At Baby Bush Toys, we offer an exciting range of products for the resoundingly average child," the Web site reads. Like, for example, the Terror Alert Xylophone, or the all-red Rubik's Cube.
After you have finished chuckling at the site, though, it's worth taking a look at a new expose by the Atlantic Monthly on the stunted development of the Iraqi army since the US occupation. It provides a unique look into the problems facing America should it want to withdraw from the country any time soon.
Politically Incorrect Top 10
Want to know what were the Top 10 politically (in)correct words of 2005? Or who are the 25 Britons who wield most influence in America, who wrote the worst sex scene in fiction this year, or what were the 10 most violent video games? Then look no further. The
Fimocluos Web site is the place to go to recap on the best and worst that 2005 had to offer. As it says itself, the site serves to "devour the filth expunged on the mediascape."
Good Sex versus Bad Writing
It's kind of like the Darwin Awards -- one of those annual Internet events that we all look forward to. But with nominees like John Updike, Salman Rushdie and Gabriel Garcia Marquez, the annual Bad Sex in Fiction Award -- handed out by Britain's Literary Review -- comes with a gravitas that other such prizes just can't match. Honoring the worst sex scene in fiction, this year's award went to Giles Coren. He deserved it. In his book "Winkler," he compared his protagonist's penis with a "shower dropped in an empty bath." He joins a distinguished group of past winners.
