SPIEGEL Surfs the Web Internet Karaoke

Bored at the office or home this weekend? Are you a patio Pop Idol? No worries, we're here to save your soul -- with our favorite Internet Karaoke links.
Dieser Beitrag stammt aus dem SPIEGEL-Archiv. Warum ist das wichtig?

We, here at Spiegel Online, are self-confessed, compulsive Karaoke junkies. We've been to the highest-tech Karaoke bars of Tokyo and we've been to trailer park Karaoke parties in the heartland. But our favorite Karaoke pastime is to invite a few friends over, power up the laptop, crank up the loud speaker, and let the booze and Internet Midi music files flow freely. We've collected a few of our delightfully dreadful favorites so that our readers can lead happier, more fulfilling lives.

Fancy yourself the next Ol' Blue Eyes  or ex-Take That singer?

Do Dolly and Kenny make you melt ?

Is Diana Ross the first voice that comes to mind when you want to get horizontal  with someone?

Does Barry Manilow make you randy  over Mandy?

Let all that permed hair down and rock .

Our favorite search engine for tracking Midi files is Britain's MIDIsite . But if you're feeling lazy, you can always tune into VH1's 24-hour streaming Karaoke Radio .

A Day in the Life of Bono

Double aid, cancel debt and abolish trade restrictions are the three main messages behind Bono's tireless campaigning for Africa. Together with Bob Geldof, he is calling for the world's richest nations to put an end to poverty when they meet for the G8 summit next month. But how exactly can a globally recognized rock star get politicians to take out their pocketbooks? The English newspaper the Guardian tagged along with the lead singer of U2 for a day to find out:  8am get up; 9am have breakfast; 4pm perform Rock concert; 6pm end world poverty and hunger.

Jacko moonwalks out of court

"I have never been so happy in my entire life. I cried," writes Purple_Chaos from New York, while Izzy72 from Switzerland says "I am shaking ... I am crying ... I can't describe my feelings! I never felt like that b4!!!" As for DoThatMoonwalk from Florida, this is one of the happiest days of his life. The Michael Jackson Cafe  gives a fascinating insight into the minds of all those whose day (in some cases lives, it seems) would truly have been ruined by a guilty verdict.

On a more pragmatic level Sam England from North Carolina is hoping to make a buck or two out of the whole to-do. The rather canny soul has reserved the domains Michaeljacksonisfree.net and Michaeljacksonisfree.com and is willing to flog them both for the bargain price of $5,000 for the pair.
