SPIEGEL Surfs the Web The Funeral's Over, Now Watch the Wedding
First they made a name for themselves by webcasting the site of Madonna's marriage to Guy Ritchie in Scotland. Now, Network Webcams is setting its sights on Charles and Camilla, who will wed Saturday, just as soon as he gets back from the pope's funeral in Rome. The company has installed two Webcams on the roof of the Castle Hotel, which is located directly across the street from Windsor Guildhall, where the pair will exchange vows and admit their "sins and wickedness."
Do You Yagoohoogle?
It is merely a small step for a programmer -- but what an impact on the World Wide Web! Norwegian Asgeir Nilsen was tired of having to go through the cumbersome procedure of first searching Google, then Yahoo and shuffling between windows. So he combined the two to create Yagoohoogle. Why not just stick to one search engine or the other? Google, with its thorough search, is the established market leader, but also produces many meaningless and often annoying results. Yahoo, in contrast, filters out a lot of the junk clogging up the Google results, but can hold back important information if you are looking for anything specific. By simply combining the two search engines, Nilsen, has made the world a whole lot simpler -- except, of course, for that complicated word.
Following the Pope around the World
On Wednesday, millions of people from all over Europe and the world are streaming towards Rome to attend the Friday funeral of Pope John Paul II. In Poland, special non-stop pilgrimage trains have even been organized and will set off Wednesday evening from Warsaw. Even before the Pope's death Guardian reporter Stephen Moss undertook a pilgrimage of his own. He traveled around the world looking into the state of the Catholic Church at the end of John Paul II's controversial papacy and filed dispatches from four continents. And why was this a controversial papacy? An interesting debate on his legacy can be found here . Meanwhile, the Vatican itself is doing its best to keep the faithful up to date on exactly what is going on behind the scenes. The Pope Blog , once filled with blurbs written by the pope himself, is now posting all sorts of news items and articles concerning the current mourning period, the upcoming funeral and the selection of a new pope.
