SPIEGEL Surfs the Web The World is Your Oyster
The Personal World Map , designed by artist Roxanna Torre, distorts the view of the world based on how much time and money you have. Whereas we could all theoretically pop off to the Maldives at a moment's notice -- if we were lay-about billionaires, at least -- this map tells you how far you can go if you are in, say, Paris, with 3 hours and 10 euros to spare. According to Torre, "The main purpose of the Personal World Map is to give awareness of the users actual position in the world in relation to other places by taking into account the 'effort' needed to get to a certain destination." Or to just realise how small your world can be when you've got nothing to spend.
Intelligent Design? Don't Flatter Yourself
If the weekend leaves you free-time to ponder existential matters then ask yourself this: Who created me -- God or an incompetent idiot?
And as so often with philosophical issues, though, some "empirical" research is needed. Here's what you need to do: Gaze into a mirror and examine your mouth crammed full of teeth or your lamentable posture and ask yourself who, in god's name, could be responsible.
If a sore back or blocked sinuses interfere with your concentration on such highbrow musings then why not just sing along with Professor Dom Wise and rejoice in the beauty of evolution? Jump on the
Incompetent Design band wagon.
Finding Your Inner Zombie
Ever feel like a zombie at work? Well, here's your chance to be really undead without completely ruining your productivity while on the job. Urban Dead is a browser-based Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (MMORPG) that lets you explore Malton, a city suffering from the outbreak of a virus that has created an army of brain-hungry zombies intent on snacking on the living.
Players take on the role of civilians desperately trying to survive in the quarantined city or soldiers and scientists involved in the evacuation. Alternatively, you can be part of the legions of undead roaming the streets looking for your next meal. The whole thing is beautifully low-tech and free. Part of the appeal is you only get a very limited amount of moves, so you're playing for only about five minutes a day. You just have to make sure you've made it to a barricaded safe house before you logoff for the night -- otherwise when you check in the next day you might find out that the undead have made you their main course and now you're a zombie yourself!
