Picture This The Belly of a Monster
An exhibition visitor discovers the interior of the massive "Leviathan" sculpture by artist Anish Kapoor. The artist, who was born in India but lives in Britain, has dedicated his 80,000 cubic meter work to fellow artist Ai Weiwei, whose detention by the Chinese authorities has drawn international criticism. The dedication is a fitting one given that the sea monster Leviathan in Jewish biblical mythology has been considered a symbol of state power since the days of Thomas Hobbes. Kapoor's sculpture, which you can walk through, will be exhibited through June 23 at Paris' Grand Palais as part of the annual Momumenta in which a different artist is chosen each year to produce an unique artwork for the space.
