A man who tried to steal a frozen turkey by stuffing it under his shirt and pretending to be fat was foiled when the bird slipped on to the floor as he walked past the cash register, German police said.
The shop assistant noticed the sudden weight loss and called the police. Officers rushed to the supermarket in the western town of Wanne-Eickel and detained the 58-year-old man, who was inebriated.
"There's no such thing as a lightning diet but frozen turkeys can fly, at least in Wanne-Eickel," police said in a statement.
